Hij wordt ondergebracht op het kasteel van Amerongen. Op 11 november is formeel het einde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog met de ondertekening van de wapenstilstand in een treinwagon in het bos van Compiègne, ten noorden van Parijs. Eveneens op 11 november wordt Oostenrijk en op 14 november wordt Tsjechoslowakije een republiek.)
