(Drie weken later op 2 maart 1908 wint de Franse natuurkundige Gabriel Lippmann de Nobelprijs voor de natuurkunde. Hij krijgt de prijs voor het produceren van de eerste kleurgevoelige fotografische plaat. Hoewel Lippmann’s proces zeer natuurgetrouwe foto’s opleverde is het nooit echt van de grond gekomen, vooral omdat de benodigde belichtingstijden erg lang waren en omdat de foto’s niet gereproduceerd konden worden. Ondanks dat was het Lippmann-proces een belangrijke stap voorwaarts in de kleurenfotografie. Lippmann was overigens niet de eerste die een kleurenfoto presenteerde dat was namelijk Maxwell.)

(Twee dagen later op 10 februari 1941 verschijnt de eerste uitgave van Het Parool en begint als sociaal-democratisch getinte verzetskrant en richt zich vooral op de stad en gemeente Amsterdam. Vanaf augustus 1941 wordt de krant niet meer gestencild maar gedrukt. Vanaf 1975 gaat het         bergafwaarts met Het Parool. De krant verliest lezers en lijdt steeds grotere verliezen. Op 31 maart 2004 gaat Het Parool over op het tabloidformaat.)

(Op 25 februari 1941 is Amsterdam in de greep van een algemene werkstaking uit protest tegen de jodenvervolgingen. Een dag later breidt de staking zich uit tot de Zaanstreek, Kennemerland (Haarlem en Velsen), Hilversum, Utrecht en Weesp. In de hoofdstad komt het openbaar vervoer tot stilstand en wordt ook bij nagenoeg alle andere gemeentelijke diensten het werk neergelegd. Er wordt gestaakt bij de scheepsbouw en metaalbedrijven in Noord, bij Hollandia-Kattenburg en ook bij grootwinkelbedrijven als de Bijenkorf. In de hele stad worden winkels en kantoren gesloten. Vele scholieren verlaten hun klaslokalen. Duizenden mensen bewegen zich die dag door het centrum van de stad. Het opgekropte gemoed zoekt een weg zich te uiten tegen de Duitse bezetters, die op 10 mei 1940 ons land binnenvielen en steeds openlijker hun regime wilden opdringen. De Duitsers breken de staking met geweld, intimidatie en meedogenloos ingrijpen. Hierbij vallen negen doden en 24 zwaargewonden en talloze stakers worden gevangen genomen. Na twee dagen is de staking ten einde. De Februaristaking wordt jaarlijks herdacht bij het beeld van De Dokwerker op het Jonas Daniël Meijerplein.)

De toren in het midden van de vlag verwijst naar het Kasteel van Coevorden.)

(Op 21 februari 1947 demonstreert de Amerikaanse natuurkundige Edwin Land in New York City de eerste instant fotocamera, de Polaroid Land Camera geheten. Hij begon aan de polaroidcamera naar aanleiding van een vraag van zijn dochtertje, die wilde weten waarom foto’s niet meteen klaar waren nadat ze waren geknipt.)
