(Dr. Robert Goddard is een Amerikaanse wetenschapper en uitvinder. Hij is pionier op het gebied van de moderne rakettechniek en wordt beschouwd als één van de belangrijkste grondleggers van de ruimtevaart. Op 16 maart 1926 lanceert hij in Auburn, Massachusetts de eerste raket met vloeibare brandstof. De raket bereikt een hoogte van 12,5 meter en landt 56 meter verderop. Van 1930 tot 1935 lanceert hij raketten die een snelheid kunnen bereiken van 550 miles per uur. Op 1 mei 1959 wordt een belangrijk ruimtevaartlaboratorium van NASA gevestigd in Greenbelt, Maryland en vernoemd naar Goddard: het Goddard Space Flight Center.)

(Op 25 maart 1926 wordt in Den Haag aan de Grote Marktstraat een filiaal van het warenhuis De Bijenkorf geopend. Het pand is een ontwerp van de beroemde architect Piet Kramer en wordt gerekend tot de Amsterdamse School. Als eerste in Nederland beschikt de winkel over een roltrap. Het wordt in 1962 en 1997 gerenoveerd. Veel van de renovaties uit 1962, die toen als modern en noodzakelijk gevonden werden zijn tijdens de grote verbouwing in de negentiger jaren weer teruggedraaid. Zo is o.a. de lichthal in een wat eigentijdsere versie weer in oude glorie hersteld. Daarnaast zijn de afgelopen jaren de beroemde glas-in-lood ramen in het monumentale trappenhuis volledig gerenoveerd. De Bijenkorf werd in 1870 door Simon Philip Goudsmit opgericht en was gevestigd op de Nieuwendijk in Amsterdam.)
