(Op 23 maart 1948 wordt in Parijs op de Salon d’Automobile de Citroën 2CV ten doop gehouden. De auto is vooral bekend onder zijn weinig complimenteuze bijnaam “Lelijke Eend”. De naam zou ooit verzonnen zijn door een Franse journalist. Hij liet zich daarbij inspireren door het bekende sprookje van de Deense schrijver Hans Christian Andersen over een jong eendenkuiken die door een zwaan wordt opgevoed. In die periode gebruikte Citroën een zwaan als logo, dus de link was snel gelegd. Citroën wilde een auto leveren voor het Franse platteland. Er werden enkele eisen bepaald waaraan de auto moest voldoen. De nieuwe auto moest twee boeren en 50 kilo aardappelen of een vat met 50 liter wijn kunnen vervoeren. Er zou een schaap achterin moeten passen en op zondag zou de boer er met een hoed op in moeten kunnen. De auto moest dusdanig comfortabel zijn dat de boer een mand met eieren zou kunnen vervoeren zonder dat deze zouden breken als de auto over een omgeploegd weiland zou rijden. De auto moest verder betrouwbaar, goedkoop, zuinig en makkelijk te besturen zijn. Aan een ding werd geen waarde gehecht, namelijk het uiterlijk. Uiteindelijk zal de 2CV gedurende 42 jaar geproduceerd worden. Op 27 juli 1990 rolt het laatste eendje van de lopende band in de Portugese Citroën-fabriek waar de 2CV de laatste jaren van zijn bestaan werd gefabriceerd.)
