De eerste aflevering werd uitgezonden op 17 september 1958. Tot 1964 werden Pipo de Clown verhalen verdeeld over meerdere afleveringen uitgezonden. Tussen 1966 en 1968 was Pipo te zien bij de NTS in korte afleveringen van ongeveer vijf minuten. Vanaf 1970 zond de VARA weer een aantal lange Pipo verhalen uit. Enkele beroemde uitspraken uit de serie zijn: “Sapperdeflap!” van Pipo, of van Klukkluk: “Ossiepossie zeg, mij zijn niet van de bange, mij zijn van de voorzichtige!”. Of het klagerige van de Dikke Deur: “Ooh, wat heb ik toch een pech” en niet te vergeten de stotterende boeven Snuf en Snuitje die altijd opzoek waren naar “P-p-p-parels, mooie p-p-p-parels!”.)
