Ze vinden plaats van 14 mei tot 28 oktober 1900 in een soort van een attractiepark en hebben nog weinig te maken met de Olympische geest. Er is geen openingsplechtigheid noch een slotceremonie. Het Parijse volk heeft nauwelijks weet van de wedstrijden. Nederland is voor het eerst vertegenwoordigd op de spelen. Vooral bij het roeien worden goede prestaties geleverd. De roeiers François Brandt en Roelof Klein zijn de eerste Nederlandse Olympisch kampioenen die gouden medailles weten te bemachtigen.)

(Op 27 oktober 1904 besloot de gemeenteraad van de gemeente Utrecht om een gemeentelijk vervoerbedrijf op te richten. Het voorstel was afkomstig van burgemeester Reiger. De belangrijkste reden om een eigen vervoerbedrijf te beginnen, was de wens om elektrische trams te laten rijden. Die wens hing weer samen met de oprichting van het elektriciteitsbedrijf. Doordat men met elektrische trams ging rijden, was het elektriciteitsbedrijf verzekerd van grote afname van elektriciteit. Op 20 juni 1906 rijdt de eerste elektrische tram tussen Centraal Station en Vaaltbrug. Natuurlijk was er vóór die tijd al openbaar vervoer in Utrecht en wel sinds 1889. Op 3 juli 1889 werd de paardentram van de UTM (Utrechtse Tram-Maatschappij) feestelijk geopend. Op de eerste dag werden bijna 2100 mensen vervoerd. Voor een deel van de rit kostte het kaartje 5 cent en voor de hele rit 10 cent.)
