(De siamese tweeling Folkje en Tjitske de Vries zagen op 8 november 1953 het levenslicht. Ze waren met de buiken aan elkaar vergroeid, maar vanaf de geboorte functioneerden beide lichamen volkomen los van elkaar. Ze wogen samen dertien pond bij de geboorte en de artsen in Leeuwarden stelden direct na de geboorte al vast dat ze een goede kans hadden om gescheiden te worden. De vergroeiing die hen verbond besloeg slechts een oppervlakte van 7 centimeter. Vandaag precies 56 jaar geleden op 12 juni 1954 ruim zeven maanden na de geboorte, is het zover. De operatiekamer wordt klaargemaakt, een team van zeven artsen en vele verpleegkundigen wast de handen. Een filmploeg van het Nederlands Universitair Instituut voor de productie van wetenschappelijke films neemt de cameraposities in. Zij zullen de hele operatie vastleggen. De operatie verloopt succesvol en beide zussen wonen heden ten dage in Amersfoort.)
