Op 26 juni 1986 wordt de laatste schuifdeur geplaatst. De Stormvloedkering wordt op 4 oktober 1986 geopend (eigenlijk gesloten) door koningin Beatrix. De weg over de kering gaat echter pas open in november 1987.)
