(Eén maand later op 28 september 1924 vindt de eerste vlucht om de wereld in Seattle, Washington plaats. Van de vier Douglas World Cruiser-amfibietoestellen volbrengen er maar twee de rondreis, die 44.340 km lang is en 175 dagen duurt.)

(Op 1 oktober 1924 vertrekt de Pelikaan van Schiphol voor de eerste intercontinentale commerciële vlucht naar Batavia. De reis van 16.000 km duurt bijna twee maanden. Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van de Fokker F VII. Hij is gemaakt van linnen, hout en metalen buizen en de motor is een Rolls Royce-motor van 400 pk. Om de vlucht uit te kunnen voeren wordt het vliegtuig, dat overigens een van de eerste is met een overdekte cabine, flink aangepast. Met extra benzinetanks, een extra radiator en een reserve-propeller moet de klus in 22 dagen geklaard kunnen worden. Praag is de eerste tussenstop. De navigatie gebeurt door middel van het uitkijken naar kerktorens, steden en rivieren. Na twee dagen krijgt het toestel een oververhitte motor en maakt het een noodlanding in Bulgarije. Er is geen geld voor een nieuwe motor, maar dankzij een snelle inzameling onder lezers van het blad Het Leven kan er een nieuwe motor gebracht worden. Vlak voordat er in Bulgarije sneeuwstormen zullen losbreken, kan het Fokker-toestel weer de lucht in. Uiteindelijk arriveert het toestel op 24 november in Batavia.)
