(De volgende dag op 17 september 1922 wordt de Nederlandse wielrenner Piet Moeskops wederom wereldkampioen op de sprint. Al in 1914 kwam zijn eerste grote triomf, Nederlands kampioen op de sprint bij de amateurs. In de oorlogsjaren 1914-1918 was de belangstelling voor wielrennen minder, maar toen de wielersport na de oorlog weer opbloeide en Moeskops voor de tweede keer amateur-kampioen werd, besloot hij in 1919 beroepsrenner te worden. In 1921 won hij zijn eerste wereldtitel en prolongeerde deze in de daarop volgende drie jaar. Na een jaar niet gekwalificeerd te zijn, mocht hij zich in 1926 wederom wereldkampioen noemen.)

(Op 18 oktober 1922 wordt door een aantal vooraanstaande industriëlen, waaronder radiopionier Guglielmo Marconi de British Broadcasting Company opgericht. Het hoofdkantoor wordt gevestigd in Londen. Eén van de redenen om een zender op te richten was het stimuleren van de verkoop van radio’s. De BBC zendt op 14 november 1922 haar eerste radioprogramma uit. De naam van de omroep is dan nog 2LO. Men begint als eerste in Londen uit te zenden, maar een dag later kan men in Manchester en Birmingham ook al naar de BBC luisteren. Het duurt slechts enkele maanden voordat heel Engeland naar de BBC kan luisteren. Sinds 1 januari 1927 is BBC de afkorting voor British Broadcasting Corporation. Sir John Reith is de eerste directeur-generaal van de BBC.)
